Constitutional Judge Desislava Atanasova published documents related to her trip to Turkey in the period April 5–8, 2024.
According to her, the certificate provided by the Turkish authorities certifies that during this period she resided on the territory of the Republic of Turkey and did not leave the country between flights on the Sofia - Istanbul - Sofia route.
The topic attracted public attention after information was previously disseminated by the Ministry of Interior that during the same period Atanasova had traveled on a plane that also carried the chairman of the Bulgarian People's Rights Party, Delyan Peevski.
Atanasova specified that she used a diplomatic passport, but her trip was personal, not a business trip.
Her published position states that she flew on Turkish Airlines civil flights on the Sofia - Istanbul - Sofia route.
To the documents already submitted, she has also added a certificate from the Security Directorate of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
Atanasova adds that the diplomatic passport is an official Bulgarian identity document issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in accordance with current legislation.
She also points out that she was not seconded to Turkey in the period 5–8 April 2024 and that the Constitutional Court did not hold sessions during this period.
The case continues to be a subject of public and media interest, with the affected parties presenting their positions and documents on the topic.
