The 36-year-old only son of Vessela Lecheva gave his own life jacket to his friend's child and entered the stormy waves of the Aegean Sea with a jet ski. Martin turned around with the jet ski and hit his head on the water scooter, losing consciousness and sinking to a depth of 12 meters.
Vessela Lecheva's son, Martin Velev, died at the age of 36 yesterday afternoon after falling from his jet ski into the sea in front of the family's Porto Elea campsite on the Greek peninsula of Halkidiki.
His fatal fall was witnessed by many of his friends and his 8-month pregnant wife, Ana-Maria, who were tanning on Zografou Beach. Several people immediately rushed to his rescue, but they were unable to find out in time where Martin had fallen, as the waves had brought his jet ski onto the beach.
Vessela Lecheva's son was found after about 20 minutes and pulled from the sea, already unconscious. Two ambulances and police arrived at the scene of the incident, Martin was taken to the Agios Nikolaos Health Center, where he was pronounced dead. According to the doctors, Vessela Lecheva's son could have survived if he had been wearing a life jacket.
Bulgarians vacationing at the Porto Elea campsite said that shortly before he went into the sea alone with his jet ski, Martin was riding his 3-year-old daughter Vaiana, who was wearing a life jacket and helmet, on the water scooter. Finally, he went into the sea alone with the jet ski.
A little later, the Greek authorities issued official information. According to them, during the inspection, it was found that the 36-year-old Bulgarian citizen, who was driving the jet, hit a wave during a maneuver. Upon impact, he was injured and fell into the water, bTV reported.
The tragic and ridiculous death of Martin Velev is a cruel blow to his mother Vessela Lecheva, to his 8-month pregnant wife Ana-Maria and to the entire family. By an evil irony of fate, the young businessman died the day before another nightmarish date for the family – July 11, 2007. Then a hired killer shot his father Manol Velev in the head, who fell into a coma after the assassination attempt, from which he never woke up. Manol Velev died in his sleep in the family house in the Simeonovo district in the spring of 2022.Time and calendarsVessela Lecheva will again have to find the strength to overcome the great misfortune. In 2022, the head of the BOK became a grandmother for the first time, after the birth of her granddaughter Vaiana. Martin's wife is 8 months pregnant with her second child.
Unfortunately, the only son of Manol Velev and Vessela Lecheva - Martin, also passed away young. Despite his fragile age, the heir to the head of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, Vessela Lecheva, skillfully managed a huge business empire together with his uncle Daniel. Martin managed over 30 companies for quick loans, gambling, insurance activities and luxury real estate construction.
